Welcome to Ishnana Hotel

The Ishnana Hotel is situated at 26, Railway Street Pietermaritzburg. The Pietermaritzburg Railway Station, situated in the capital city of KwaZulu-Natal, was constructed in the 19th century, and continues to service several of the major cities of this country. It is Pietermaritzburg’s main station and is a major stop for long-distance passenger rail services.

The Pietermaritzburg Railway Station has more significance to both locals and international tourists than its aesthetic beauty and its convenient services. This was the station at which history was made; at which one man took a stand against racial inequality and began his life-long fight against discrimination. In 1893, Mahatma Ghandi sat in a “whites only” compartment on the train, which was a first class part of the vehicle.

The building used to hold the booking tickets offices of yesteryear as well as the railways jail section, for those to visit who were not complying with specific rules and regulations pertaining to the use of railway services provided.

The refurbishing of one section of historical buildings has taken place over the last couple of years, to enhance the old, unique appearances of the past. The building has now been transformed, and houses accommodation units/rooms in the form of a small hotel called Ishnana Hotel, which is the idea of well known KZN Midlands businessman Thabo Mhlongo. The hotel is set to provide the traveller a bed and shower for the night or a weekend. The rooms vary from what is provided, and on booking the traveller may request their preference of room.

Overnight accommodation includes a choice breakfast in the morning, to give one a good start to the day. The room details together with the respective rates can be viewed here... RATES
